Fort Albertino in the Stura Valley

Military architecture in the Stura Valley

The Fort Albertino is at Vinadio, in the upper Stura Valley, and is a masterpiece of military engineering and technology.  Built in just 11 years, it was completed in 1847 by Carlo Alberto of Savoy.

It is an imposing construction with walls reaching 10 km in length.  Inside, it houses the Mountain in Movement exhibition, a permanent multimedia show on the portrayal of the alpine world as a centre, hub and movement.

The Fort forms part of the VIAPAC itinerary, a contemporary art route and it houses an important work of the famous sculptor, David Mach.

Guided visits are possible.
