Permanent Museum of Babaciu of Monterosso Grana

These “men”, who answer to the name of Babaciu, have gradually colonised the entire hamlet of San Pietro di Monterosso Grana.

Today they occupy porticoes, balconies, stalls and every other place where they might be welcomed and offered a shelter from bad weather.  The timeless town has thus seen its population grow.  We suggest that those who think that they are always in the same spot should return several times in the space of a year to check in person; they might discover that they are indeed alive….

They came to life in 2003 from an idea of Graziella Menardo and are life-size puppets in straw and recycled material, dressed in late 19th century costumes.
